Bernkopf Goodman LLP is pleased to announce that Alison Kinchla, a complex business and real estate litigation attorney, has been awarded the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly “2018 Excellence in the Law Pro Bono Award.”

Under the direction of former K&L Gates partner and current Superior Court Judge, Michael D. Ricciuti, Kinchla spent the first decade of her legal career fighting for the release of the wrongfully convicted Frederick Weichel from prison. Weichel was convicted of first degree murder in 1981.

Due to the countless hours of work by Kinchla, Judge Ricciuti, and two associates at K&L; Gates, Weichel was released from prison in 2017 after almost 36 years in jail.

According to Lawyers Weekly, the “Excellence in the Law” event recognizes a wide range of accomplishments in the legal community. The attorneys recognized for “Excellence in Pro Bono” are role models for the way they give back to the larger community.
